Latest Guidance
Timing of 2nd Doses
Although national guidance is to provide 2nd doses at 12 weeks, NWL have taken the decision, due to ‘exceptional clinical circumstances’ 2nd doses can be provided at 8 weeks’ following their 1st dose until further notice. This means that 2nd doses for all under 18s can be given at 8 weeks.
Eligibility for Booster Doses – Under 18s
The JCVI have confirmed that the following cohorts are eligible for booster doses no sooner than 3 months after completion of their primary course:
- Children and young people aged 16 to 17 years
- Children and young people aged 12 to 15 who are in a clinical risk group or who are a household contact of someone who is immunosuppressed
- Children and young people aged 12 to 15 years who are severely immunosuppressed and who have a third primary dose
Further details can be found here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2021/08/C1374-System-letter-16-17-year-olds-JCVI-guidance.pdf
Eligibility for Booster Doses – Severely Immunosuppressed
The JCVI have confirmed that severely immunosuppressed individuals who have completed their primary course (3 doses) should be offered a booster dose with a minimum of 3 months between the third primary and booster dose. Those who have not yet received their third dose may be given the third dose now to avoid further delay. A further booster dose can be given in 3 months, in line with the clinical advice on optimal timing.

Children Aged 5-11
The Green Book has been updated to reflect plans to vaccinate children aged 5-11. We are still awaiting further information on vaccinating this younger cohort and will share details as they are published.
